Cleared to Pack

Singapore airport security rules

Singapore keeps the classic 100ml container and 1-litre bag rule, and liquid medicines are exempt only with a doctor's letter. CAAS bans charging power banks on board and limits passengers to two. Bringing medicine into the country needs care: the limit is 3 months' supply, and anything containing a controlled substance needs prior HSA approval.

Checked against official pages on . Authority: Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS); Changi Airport Group for checkpoint rules; Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for medicine imports.

Liquids

Liquids, aerosols and gels must be in containers of 100ml or less, totalling no more than 1 litre, in one transparent resealable bag per passenger, which must be fully closed.

  • Containers over 100ml are not accepted, even if partly empty.
  • Baby food and breast milk are exempt when the infant is travelling with you. Other items may be exempt with a genuine doctor's letter.
  • Liquids that do not meet the rules must be thrown away before screening.
  • Changi's pages do not mention any 2-litre relaxation.

Batteries and power banks

Each passenger may carry no more than two power banks of up to 100Wh, in hand luggage only. Power banks from 100Wh to 160Wh need airline approval, and those over 160Wh are not allowed. Power banks must not be charged on board, and CAAS advises against using them to charge devices during the flight.

  • Protect each power bank against short circuits, for example in its original packaging, a separate pouch, or with the terminals taped.
  • Power banks may not be packed in checked baggage.

Food

Foods containing liquid, such as soups, sauces and canned food in liquid, follow the 100ml rule. Baby food is exempt when you travel with the infant.

Medication

At security, liquid medication over 100ml needs a genuine doctor's letter to be exempt. To enter Singapore, you may bring up to 3 months' supply of personal medication. Medicines containing controlled substances need HSA approval before you travel.

  • Bring a copy of your prescription or doctor's letter and keep medicines in their original pharmacy-labelled packaging.
  • Apply to HSA at least 2 weeks before arrival. More than 3 months' supply is not allowed.
  • Changi says medicinal powders on US-bound flights should come with a doctor's letter.
